At first, we notice a special ambience to the place without being able to put a finger on exactly what has changed. Then, as we continue walking, we recognize in the distance, the faint sound of running water. We turn to the direction and start to explore. Suddenly, on entering a small narrow valley, a minute brook rambling down a rock face unfolds in front of our eyes. Soft, green, moss-covered rocks and logs cover the valley floor as melodic gurgles greet us welcomes.The steep sides of the narrow valley and the tall trees act to still the air - trapping it; while the splashing brook acts to invigorate and humidify the air. The constant humidity created by the falls is evident by the thick soft green moss that carpets everything - the rock face, the jumble of rocks at the base, the fallen tree trunks - all angular edges softened by this living carpet.The sound is magical, calming yet stimulating. A pervading hiss of falling water with a counterpoint created by a constant chorus of babbling gurgles and splashes.While I was recording, (and of course being very still) a martin appeared from above the falls, as he was following the water's flow. He paused, surprised to see me, gave me a wink, and continued downstream.
