The Knight's Cross of the Iron ( German : Ritterkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes ), or more commonly known as the Knight's Cross ( German : Ritterkreuz ), with other variants, was the symbol of Nazi Germany 's World War II World War II. It was the highest award given to military and semi-military personnel during World War II.

Knight's Cross; It was given to all ranks for various reasons, from a high-ranking commander who successfully led his soldiers in the war to a low-ranking soldier for an act of bravery in the military field. The award is awarded to members of the three forces under the command of the Wehrmacht (Land Forces: Heer , Navy: Kriegsmarine and Air Force: Luftwaffe ) , as well as to members of the Waffen-SS , Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD, Reich Labor Service) and Volkssturm (Homeland Guard), in addition to other Axis It was given to the military personnel of the States .

 

The award was first created with the start of the Polish Campaign on September 1, 1939 . The award was created because it replaced the German Empire 's old awards for merit and bravery. In 1940, a higher grade of the award, the Knight's Cross with the addition of Oak Leaf , was created. In 1941, two more premium awards were created: the Knight's Cross with the addition of Oak Leaf and Sword, and the Knight's Cross with the addition of Oak Leaf, Sword and Diamond . At the end of 1944, the highest class of the award , the Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaf, Sword and Diamond addition, was created to be given due to the great military achievement of Oberst Hans-Ulrich Rudel , the Stuka commander . [1] Over 7,000 people were awarded the Knight's Cross throughout the war.
