In Weeks 1 and 2, your discussion questions focused on influential events in the evolution of the U.S. education system as well as the effects that technological advancements have on education. Now let us get a little more personal and talk about your philosophical orientations to teaching.

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words: 

  • Consider the five major coherent philosophical orientations to teaching: perennialism, essentialism, progressivism, existentialism, and social reconstructionism. Which orientation(s) do you feel you identify with most?
  • How does/do your selected orientation(s) relate to classroom practice?
  • What might be your classroom approach? Focus on your role, student role, and curriculum. Explain and provide specific examples to support your response.
