In Wk 3, we explore halogenated chemicals, metals, and solvents by analyzing the connection between dioxin toxicity and the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor (AhR). We also examine the toxicity of lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and organic solvents. Consider the readings and activities you have completed this week.

Respond to the following in a minimum of 175 words: 

How do contaminants, such as mercury, lead or pesticides affect an ecosystem? What do we mean by ecosystem? Is the biosphere an ecosystem?
