For example, and this is not a slight to just Christianity, however, the Christian religion has thousands of denominations, and sects, and has the largest in number of adherents; but it is filled with various contradictory ideas about God. Not even traditional orthodox Christianity really knows who and what God is! So much of the cause for this confusion is simply that human beings try to figure out and reason for themselves what God's nature is like. Many people do not, and can not accept any statement that do not confirm what they presently believe, even if the beliefs that they presently hold to be true are based on false information and are inconsistent with reality.
