The United States claims to have freedom of the press and freedom of speech. Since the colonial period however, the United States has consistently censored material with political and military topics or obscenity.

Discuss why U.S. media more authoritarian with some topics and more liberal with other topics. Does this censorship lead to unethical reporting? How might censorship of objectionable material be compatible with the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution?
