Critically read Chapter 3 (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site., the Week 3 Instructor Guidance, and view the Intentional learning for college success - Chapter 3 (critical reading) (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. video (above). The video shows the unique thinking and writing processes of individual learners as they approach a college-level assignment.

Reflect: Think of a course you completed in which you received a high or fairly high final grade. Reflect on (without consulting any sources) the answers to the following questions:  What is the main goal of studying this subject?  What are people in this field trying to accomplish? What kinds of questions do they ask and problems do they solve? What sorts of information or data do they gather?  What is the most basic idea, concept, or theory in this field?  How did studying this field change your view of the world?

Write: After completing the reflective activity above, in a minimum of 250 words, address the following questions:

  • Describe the results of your reflection.  Were you able to answer the questions easily or did you struggle?  How are you able to identify the difference between what you have learned superficially and what you have learned deeply?
  • List your LCI scores. Based on your own unique Learning Patterns, identify two specific strategies to enhance your critical reading skills and two specific strategies to enhance your critical writing skills. Select strategies presented in Chapter 3 and/or the Week Three Instructor Guidance and explain how you will apply each of the strategies you have identified.

Your initial post should contain a minimum of 250 words.

Respond to Peers: Review your classmates’ posts and respond to at least two, each with a minimum of 50 words. Consider comparing and contrasting the strategies for college-level reading and writing your peer identified with your own Learning Patterns. Could these strategies support your learning preferences? Why, or why not? Provide suggestions for additional reading and writing strategies to help your peers use their Learning Patterns with intention.
