This is a Collaborative Learning Community assignment.

Each CLC group member must locate a different video lesson to post to the CLC forum that involves teaching ratio or proportional reasoning to sixth and/or seventh grade students.

As a group, discuss whether each lesson observed:

  • Has a clearly identifiable learning target.
  • Is aligned to the Common Core Math Standards.
  • Includes the “Big Ideas” stated in your text.
  • Differentiates and addresses the diverse needs of students.
  • Includes an informal and/or formal assessment. If so, does the assessment align to, and measure, the learning target?

Discuss, in your CLC forum, any appropriate revisions that would allow each lesson to more fully meet the above characteristics.

Select one of the videos submitted, and as a group, use the “Class Profile” to create a lesson plan for sixth or seventh grade students using the “COE Lesson Plan Template,” that incorporates the revisions discussed by your CLC. Be sure to include technology for students in the “Class Profile” to better understand ratios and proportional reasoning.

In your lesson plan, indicate which ISTE-S standard you are addressing.

Submit the lesson plan and include a link to the video.

In addition, write a 150-250-word rationale defending the revisions, using the bullet points that directed your CLC discussion as a guide.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion of the assignment.
