Students will prepare a biographical essay to justify your selection of any person you feel was significant in American history prior to 1877.

1. Must be typed

2. Double spaced

3. 10-12 font on regular bond paper

4. 3-4 pages with a (3) full page minimum

5. Bibliography is required and does not count towards page min.

Consult at least three sources, no text books or “.com” Internet sources, to comprise a “Works cited” or “Bibliography” page. Be sure to properly credit your sources within your paper. If attribution is appropriate, use any style pertinent to your discipline. If you are not sure, ask.

You must address the following questions, at a minimum:

1) Who is the individual? What did they do that makes them important?

2) What events or policies are the individual most associated with? How would you describe their influence in American history? Be sure to list several examples to support why you feel they deserve this award.

3) How would you assess the overall impact of this individual in the development of American society?
