Edmund Hughes is a man on a mission. To write books that manage to tell an entertaining story with strong characters, without cutting to black for each and every sex scene. Has he lost his mind? There’s a fairly good chance of that. Can anyone stop him? Unfortunately not.
Edmund fell in love with writing in college and continued scribbling for fun until the stress of pursuing a career as a teacher pushed him to give it his full focus.
#1 - Wind Runner
Good judgment takes time to develop, even for superheroes. Take Malcolm, for instance. Within an hour of getting his powers, he trashes a classroom, shows off for the press, and has sex with a random woman after accidentally flying into her house. The woman does what anyone would do, under the circumstances. She takes a selfie with him and posts it on the internet (#windrunner).
In a world where valiant champions strive to protect what’s left of humanity against the threat of demons and sprytes, Malcolm cracks jokes, flirts with the enemy, and makes questionable life decisions. As a new member of the Champion Authority, he’s bound by honor to uphold their standards and guidelines… in theory.
#2 - Rain Dancer
Do cults really deserve their bad reputation? When compared to other non-faith based institutions, can they occasionally be the lesser of two evils? These are real questions with obvious answers that Malcolm somehow still struggles with as he flexes his dubious power of judgement.
A new group of sprytes and demons has taken up residence in Halter City. It’s up to Malcolm to determine if they’re a threat, or just a bunch of brainwashed, sex-crazed weirdos. With superhuman abilities and the attention span of a horny tomcat, he fights his way through intrigue, temptation, and life or death situations.
#3 - Jade Portal
It’s hard having a girlfriend who is wanted by a multinational, semi-militarized organization. It’s especially hard for Malcolm, given that he is a member of the organization in question, and its supreme leader has come to his small town for a visit.
Savior, United States Senator and head of the Champion Authority, is not what Malcolm was expecting. But, like any loyal employee, Malcolm follows orders, joining his partner Tapestry on an undercover mission into a casino to track down an opponent with a new, uncontrolled power.
#4 - Chaste Widow
Having an existential crisis is easy compared to keeping an entire city safe from evil. Or so Malcolm thought, back when life as a champion was simple, and there weren’t two of him.
The doubling raises issues in every aspect of both his and Second Wind’s life, spanning the spectrum from love to deeper questions of meaning and purpose. Malcolm is forced to confront himself in a way he never has before; as a separate entity, who continues to grow more unpredictable by the day.
#5 - Former Champion
With the world in ruins, Malcolm’s focus shifts from fighting evil to fighting for survival. The day to day grind of gathering food and supplies is just a fact of his new existence. Alone and powerless, he’s limited to looking after himself and taking care of his own problems.
When friends from the past unexpectedly reenter his life, Malcolm is suddenly caught back up in a web of superpowers and plots. What lengths will he go to in order to undo his own mistakes and save a forsaken world?
