Karate-do is the Japanese martial art translated as The Way of the Empty Hand.
The art is taught partly through the use of kata - forms. These set patterns of movement are often just used as part of the examination process for new belts. The application of these movements is called bunkai, yet that word actually translates as analysis. To use, apply, is oyo.
