On Saturday 19th September 2015 there was a seminar held at the Karate Academy in Devon, UK.

Taught by John Burke renshi, the subject was the omote (surface level) applications of Kanku Dai.

This Shotokan Karate kata is taught at Black Belt level and is considered the basis of many of the lower grade kata.  Being such a fundamental part of the art, it is vital that students appreciate the potential applications of the moves in the kata.

This video - over an hour in length - features some of the throws, locks, takedowns, and strikes to anatomically vulnerable areas that can be found in Kanku Dai.  It was shot live at the seminar, and in no way replaces Kata & Application vollumes 10 & 11 from the Bunkai.co.uk site, but can be seen as variations on the themes contained in those two videos.

Thanks to those who acted as uke on the day, and to those who attended the seminar and support our written and video tutorial work.
