Operation Entebbe is a counter-terrorist hostage-rescue mission carried out by commandos of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda, East Africa on July 4, 1976. Sometimes known as “Raid on Entebbe” and retroactively referred to as Operation Jonathan in memory of the unit's leader, Yonatan Netanyahu the older brother of Benjamin Netanyahu a two-time Prime Minister of Israel, Operation Entebbe had the military codename Operation Thunderbolt (DURATION: ONE HOUR FIFTEEN MINUTES).
