KHCD-2012-087DL (STEREO Reel Tape Master/LP) - Frederick Fennell conducts Victor Herbert; Frederick Fennell conducts George Gershwin - Two great song arrangement collections from the Mercury Perfect Presence series on one CD. The Gershwin selections, sourced from a near-mint blue label CFR pressing, have been previously rereleased on CD, but the CD has been long out of print. The Herbert selections, sourced here from a well-preserved and rare Mercury reel tape, have never been reissued. The arrangements on the Gershwin pieces were by Ray Wright; Richard Hayman did the arrangements for the Herbert songs. Recorded at Fine Studios in New York, using close-up multi-miking and resulting wide-range, close-up sonics, this CD is a great demo disc. Thanks to Andrew Yates for the lending of the Mercury reel tape used in this production.
