Edward Elmer Smith was an American author of popular science fiction.
He is the creator the Lensman and Skylark series both of which have been immensely popular and have inspired numerous later scifi novels and movies.
His novels are considered space operas and offer non stop action. His was true science fiction extrapolating known science and existing socio-political patterns. He was also the first to create extra-terrestrial non-human characters as heroes.
