KANKU DAI part 1 - kata & application volume 10
Kanku Dai, also known as Kusanku, is such a large part of the heritage of the martial arts. It is the foundation for the black belt kata of shuri-te, and the basis of the movements of many other kata.
As such, the keys to understanding many different Karate kata applications can be found in this particular kata.
John Burke sensei takes us through the first half of Kanku Dai in this hour long video, and demonstrates just how the moves can be used for self defence.
Usually, Sensei demosntrates with one "uke" for a video, but for this project there was a queue of black belts wanting to help out. With three of them joining in, it is unfortunate that the first 20 miinutes or so are shot at a slightly longer range, as logistics (and the slight injury that occurred when filming) meant that those early scenes were nto to be re-shot. This shouldn't spoil your viewing, but we wanted to let you know.
