Adler - Latin Practical Grammar - Lessons 1 - 9. Duration 9hrs 21mins
Lessons 1 - 9 in audio
duration: 9 hours 21 minutes
Adler's Practical Grammar of the Latin Language is a gem of a book - providing a full 3 year Latin course in Audio, with 191 hours in total of tuition in 97 lessons, each lesson divided into several sections:
The first section of every lesson deals with formal grammar, and takes you through the syntax, and conversational examples.
This download also includes the Serial and Oral Latin Course 1 -50, (text only) a re-write by Evan der Millner of the first lessons from Adler's book, making the initial entry into the language more smooth. After studying the Serial and Oral lessons, return and review Adler from lesson one, and then move on through the course.
The second section runs through the examples, without the grammar, in Latin/English/Latin.
The third section of each lesson reviews the material twice in Latin only - the first reading is slow, and the second a little faster.
Adler's textbook is one of the most comprehensive Latin textbooks ever written. It takes the unique approach of treating Latin like a living language. The material builds gradually in complexity, with an emphasis on frequent repetition. This textbook would be suitable for a complete novice, however, as Adler treats Latin grammar in great detail (without getting bogged down with terminology, choosing instead a descriptive approach), even advanced Latinists would benefit from studying Adler's book.
The goal of the course is to get you to be able to read in Latin , and to think in Latin.
After the student completes this course, they are advised to commence an intensive programme of Latin reading, commencing with simple material, and building up a very firm foundation, before moving on to more advanced literature.
