Bryne : Magnificat & Nunc dimittis in G : Full score
notAmos Performing Editions
Composer: Albertus Bryne (c.1621-1668)
Forces: S.A.T.B. + reduction
Lyrics: Book of Common Prayer, 1662
Bryne (or Bryan) was organist of St Paul's (except when ejected during the Commonwealth) from 1638 until the cathedral was destroyed by the great fire of London. He then achieved the post of organist at Westminster Abbey.
Sometimes the waters of Helicon are quaffed by as many (sequentially) as the tap water of London is reputed to be. This edition relies heavily on Rimbault's 1847 revision of Samuel Arnold's "Cathedral Music", itself based upon items which William Boyce was unable to include in his own collection, which was, in its own turn, derived from items passed to him by Maurice Greene. Time willing, I hope to identify reliable earlier sources, and to eliminate anachronistic misreadings and "improvements". At which point this caveat will be suppressed.
