México En La Piel (2004) (WARNER MUSIC LATINA) (13 TRACKS)
Luis Miguel

Album Description:

MÉXICO EN LA PIEL is a collection of Mexican standards arranged for mariachi and recorded by Mexican Superstar Luis Miguel. Released on November 9, 2004, the album won the Latin Grammy Award for Best Ranchero Album at the Latin Grammy Awards of 2005 and also the Grammy Award for Best Mexican / Mexican-American Album. The MEXICO EN LA PIEL TOUR started in 2005 and finished in 2007. This 123-date tour is the highest grossing tour ever made by a Latin artist.

The Artist:

Luis Miguel can always be counted on to deliver romance upon demand, with his trademark persuasive vocal style and luxurious musical arrangements. But, with MÉXICO EN LA PIEL, he breaks this tradition (at least on the title track), to acknowledge his fealty to his home country of Mexico. However, the album is by no means a set of patriotic ballads - Miguel remains as devoted to romance as ever. His specialty is the pleading, broken-hearted lover, a role he plays with infectious enthusiasm on "Que Seas Feliz." Miguel''s lush, string and horn-laden arrangements work their usual magic, and his expressive vocals exert their compelling power over the entirety of MÉXICO EN LA PIEL.

Vocals:

Luis Miguel''s voice is quite possibly the most privileged voice in Latin pop. Hear it work its magic in demanding tracks like "Luz de Luna," where his tenor navigates intervals and multiple octaves with fluid ease. Or, in much-performed standards like "Entrega Total," a truly gorgeous song, where Miguel takes the chorus up a step, for terrific clarity, then comes back down in the seductive verse, followed by a sensual trumpet solo.

Songs:

The songs are performed with Mexico''s venerable Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan, the arrangements are stylized and pop friendly, accessible to both pop and regional Mexican fans alike. MÉXICO EN LA PIEL is infused with a gusto and genuine enthusiasm, beginning with the opening "El Viajero," an homage to Mexico''s natural beauties. Accompanied by mariachi chorus and traditional rhythms, the song is an appropriate introduction to the album. In the same vein as "El Viajero," is "Mexico En La Piel," originally released as a single to coincide with the celebration of Mexican independence in September. With it''s dramatic flair and female background vocals, the track is reminiscent of a Broadway show opening act. Another standard, "Echame a Mi La Culpa," is accompanied by strumming guitars and beefy mariachi trumpets that provide support to the wonderful, soaring chorus. Better still is "De Que Manera Te Olvido," a song that''s a perfect showcase for Luis Miguel''s high, sustained notes. MÉXICO EN LA PIEL ends with the slow, almost brooding "Un Mundo Raro" - a beautiful, infused in melancholy track.
