WHITESNAKE Whitesnake (1987) (EMI RECORDS) (11 TRACKS) 192 Kbps MP3 ALBUM

Whitesnake (1987) (EMI RECORDS) (11 TRACKS)

Album Description:

WHITESNAKE is the seventh studio album by British hard rock band of the same name, released in 1987. The album aimed for more of a heavy metal sound than the previous ones. WHITESNAKE was a major crossover hit eventually selling over 8 million copies in the United States alone (and thus going eight times platinum) and peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Its success even boosted its predecessor, SLIDE IT IN, from gold to double platinum status.

Early writing process:

In the spring of 1985, Whitesnake''s singer David Coverdale together with guitarist John Sykes decamped to the town of Le Rayol in the south of France, to start writing material for a new album (according to Coverdale, bassist Neil Murray also helped with some of the arrangements). Two songs that would emerge from these sessions would be two of Whitesnake''s biggest hits: "Still of the Night" (based on an old demo by Coverdale and Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore) and the quiet, soulful ballad "Is This Love" (originally written for Tina Turner). The rest of the album generally continued to be written and built in the same vein and consist of loud, polished hard rockers based on best pop hooks the band had on offer to date.

Mainstream success:

Upon album''s release, fans of Whitesnake - both old and especially new - embraced it with open arms. "Still of the Night" offered headbanger appeal, but it was the big chorus of powerfull and energetic No. 1 single "Here I Go Again" - one of the very small number of non-power ballad 1980''s hard rock singles to actually top the pop charts - and "Is This Love" that really attracted record buying public in droves and sold the album in spades. Arriving during an era driven by music videos, in addition to some great music, audiences were able to see their hero in some fairly provocative footage whose focus was also on an enticing young female actress.
