DEEP PURPLE Burn (1974) (WARNER BROS. RECORDS) (8 TRACKS) 320 Kbps MP3 ALBUM

Burn (1974) (WARNER BROS. RECORDS) (8 TRACKS)
Deep Purple

Album Description:

BURN is the eighth studio album by the English hard rock band Deep Purple. It was recorded in Montreux, Switzerland in November 1973 with the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, and released in February 1974.

Recording and release:

This version of the band saw lead vocalist David Coverdale and bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes from Trapeze replacing Ian Gillan and Roger Glover. This was the first Deep Purple album with the Mark III lineup. With the addition of Coverdale''s throaty roar combined with Hughes'' soaring vocal, Purple''s hard rock sound became more blues and boogie oriented. Heartfelt and rootsy all around, record incorporates elements of soul and funk which would become much more prominent on the follow up effort, STORMBRINGER. "Coronarias Redig" was recorded during these sessions, but not used on the album, only appearing as a B-side on the "Might Just Take Your Life" single. "Might Just Take Your Life"/"Coronarias Redig" was Deep Purple''s first U.K. single in two years. "Might Just Take Your Life" became a hit and worked most spectacularly with the elongated "Mistreated", later resurrected by Coverdale as a live favourite with Whitesnake. The title track and "Lay Down, Stay Down" gave vent to group''s more familiar refrain and emphasized the strength of their songwriting. Unusual for the time, the album was advertised on British television at the time of its release.

Deep Purple: Glenn Hughes (vocals, bass guitar); David Coverdale (vocals); Ritchie Blackmore (guitar); Jon Lord (keyboards); Ian Paice (drums).

Recorded in November 1973 at Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, Montreux, Switzerland.

Produced by Deep Purple.
