Its varied landscapes has made the 72,000 square kilometre park a unique habitat and a pure and unspoiled natural world.
There are around a 145 species of bird in the park, including a large number of rare water fowl that are threatened by extinction.
Further north of Lake Pehoé, surrounded by steep rocky slopes, is a picturesque lake, Lago Nordenskjöld, whose name is unusual for the region yet seems to be appropriate as much of it resembles a Scandinavian fjord.
