Garden Travels The Madame’s Garden / Native Landscape in the Sky
Dave travels to the Madame’s Garden in Montecito, CA. Madame Ganna Walska created Lotusland in Montecito, CA over a period of several decades, creating not only an unusual set of theme gardens, but also assembling an amazing collection of rare and exotic plants. In this episode, Dave also visits a native garden in the sky: Living Roof Ecosystems. Paul Kephart of Rana Creek Habitat Restoration creates living ecosystems that are self-sustaining and self-replicating. He works with native plants to build site-sensitive roof landscapes that promote birds and butterflies and mimic the natural landscape lost by urban development. Each living roof system reduces storm rain run off into our rivers and oceans, urban heat islands, and the need for costly heating and cooling.
In this episode of Garden Travels, Dave''s favorites include: Lettuce, Cotoneaster and Mountain Lion.
