Album Description:

ROCK AND ROLL OVER is an album by hard rock band Kiss. ROCK AND ROLL OVER was the first Kiss album to ship Gold and would eventually rise to Double Platinum status. It was certified Platinum on January 5, 1977, when it sold 1,000,000 copies and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard pop albums chart. ROCK AND ROLL OVER finds Kiss at its sleekest and most pop-oriented. Fresh from the thundering success of DESTROYER, the band turned out an album jammed with brisk, mostly up-tempo numbers, among which are included some of Kiss''s most memorable hits. "Hard Luck Woman" became a veritable anthem - sung by Peter Criss, this largely acoustic number displayed a disarming vulnerability. Paul Stanley, who originally wanted the song to be sung by Rod Stewart, gave it to Criss, after Simmons insisted Criss sing the song instead. Although the single did not equal the success of "Beth," it did become another Top 20 single for the group. Criss''s vocals also featured on the track "Baby Driver". "Calling Dr. Love" became a signature tune for Gene Simmons - pounding, swooping, and totally lascivious - that''s our Gene. Also of note is "I Want You," another instant classic, its start-and-stop dynamics and quintessential Ace Frehley solo (all swagger and scales) making it a defining moment for the group.

ROCK AND ROLL OVER was part of a transitional period for Kiss, between the sleazy, more conventional rock of their earlier efforts (HOTTER THAN HELL, DRESSED TO KILL) and the otherworldly, apocalyptic pomp of this album and their previous release DESTROYER.

The cover artwork was created by artist Michael Doret who worked with Kiss again on their 2009 album SONIC BOOM.
