1916 is the ninth studio album by the British metal band Motörhead. It was released on February 26, 1991 on WTG Records. This was their first album recorded for WTG after the legal battle with GWR Records was resolved.
Along with 1986''s ORGASMATRON, 1916, Motörhead''s first release of the 90''s, is the finest from the band''s twin guitar line-up (which included Wurzel and Phil Campbell). 1916 is as close as Motörhead ever got to recording a concept album - some songs deal with the horrors and killings of World War I, such as "No Voices in the Sky" and the title track. But there are several typical, non-message-laden Motörhead ragers, such as "I''m So Bad (Baby I Don''t Care)," and "R.A.M.O.N.E.S." a tribute to a certain legendary New York City punk group Ramones.
The album reached number 24 in U.K. charts and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance at the 1992 Grammys, but lost to Metallica''s METALLICA. Due to an unintentional oversight, the French, Bulgarian, Russian, Serbian and Portuguese flags were not featured on the album artwork. "Love Me Forever", a ballad which was later covered by Doro Pesch.
Motörhead: Lemmy (bass, vocals); Phil Campbell (guitar); Würzel (guitar); Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor (drums, except "1916", which featured a drum machine).
Produced and Mixed by Peter Solley.
