Never Mind The Bollocks Heres The Sex Pistols (1977)
Sex Pistols

Album Description:

NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS, HERES THE SEX PISTOLS, or simply NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS, is the only official studio album recorded by the Sex Pistols, a highly influential and controversial English punk band. Fans and critics alike generally regard the album as an extremely important and one of the most essential rock records in the history of music, citing the lasting influence it has had on subsequent punk musicians and other musical genres that were influenced by such punk rock artists.

The album was released on 27 October 1977 on the Virgin Records label, amid controversy arising from the use of the coarse slang word (in British English) "bollocks" in its title.

NEVER MIND THE BOLLOCKS is the only official album released by the Sex Pistols while vocalist Johnny Rotten was a member of the group, although the same songs have subsequently appeared on many compilation albums (the group had effectively disbanded less than three months after the albums release). All four of the bands previously issued singles, minus their b-sides, were included on the album. Many of the songs were featured in different versions in the film, THE GREAT ROCK N ROLL SWINDLE, a "mockumentary" loosely based on the Sex Pistols, but more about their manager (and the films "mastermind"), Malcolm McLaren.

Johnny Rotten and company created something utterly unlike what had come before. Their anarchist/nihilist attitude, reflected in tunes like "Anarchy in the U.K." and "No Feelings" spoke to a new generation of kids, more profoundly disaffected than any other in the 20th century. Rottens snarling, distinctly British delivery of his agitational lyrics made Dylan sound like Mario Lanza, and the pile-driver guitars of Glen Matlock and Steve Jones move the songs along like a well-oiled but ornery machine. For all their iconoclasm, though, the Pistols were far more indebted to traditional pop song format (and dynamics) than most of the punk bands that followed in their wake. Consequently, for all their anger and urgency, such songs as "Submission" and "Pretty Vacant" enter the ear easily, only beginning to cause real internal damage once they get into your gut.

The Sex Pistols: Johnny Rotten (vocals); Steve Jones (guitar); Sid Vicious, Glen Matlock (bass); Paul Cook (drums).
