PANTERA Vulgar Display Of Power (1992) 320 Kbps MP3 ALBUM

Vulgar Display Of Power (1992)
Pantera

Album Description:

VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER is the sixth studio album by Texas heavy metal band Pantera. It was released through Atco Records, on February 25, 1992. One of the most influential heavy metal albums of the 1990s, VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER is said to have played a major role in defining groove metal. Several songs from this release have become some of the bands best known, such as "F***ing Hostile", "Mouth for War", "This Love", and "Walk", the latter of which reached #35 on the UK Singles Chart. The album is the bands first to be labeled with a Parental Advisory. "F***ing Hostile" was covered by Machine Head, and has received radio play, yet was not released on an album.

During the 90s, MTVs Headbangers Ball used excerpts from the albums songs for the shows opening theme, bumpers, and closing theme. Perhaps the most prominent sample is that of Anselmo screaming "hostile," taken from the end of the song "F***ing Hostile". "Rise," "Regular People (Conceit)" and "Mouth for War" were covered by Robert Prince for the first-person shooter computer game DOOM, and a cover of "This Love" appeared in DOOM II: HELL ON EARTH.

The title of the album is from a line in the 1973 film, THE EXORCIST. When Father Damien Karras asks Regan MacNeil (or the demon who possesses her) to break her own straps and release herself using her evil power, Regan replies "thats much too vulgar a display of power."

Philip Anselmo has a tattoo on the back of his neck which reads "ATR," which is an abbreviation for "Attack The Radical" which is the subtitle of the seventh track on the album.

With a rougher image and a more focused, aggressive sound than in their hairspray and spandex days on an independent label, Pantera made a serious dent in the heavy music scene with the major label release of COWBOYS FROM HELL, which inspired radio play and MTV support. While Metallica and Megadeth were watering down their approach for a more mainstream sound, Pantera got harder with VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER. From the moment vocalist Phil Anselmo screams his first "Revenge!" in "Mouth for War," the stage is set. Drummer Vinnie Paul showcases relentless technical prowess thrashing out complex double-bass drum patterns in "A New Level" and "By Demons be Driven," while guitarist Diamond Darrells seemingly endless supply of hard-grooving, blues-inspired hooks are the heart of "No Good" and "Live in a Hole." In the emotional power-ballad "Hollow," the songs protagonist faces the heartache of having a friend trapped in a coma; and just as in the epic "Cemetery Gates" from COWBOYS FROM HELL, Anselmo continues to struggle with the consequences of fate and the will of the world.

VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER peaked at #44 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
The album achieved Double Platinum status in 2004.
In 2001 Q magazine named it one of the "50 Heaviest Albums of All-Time."
