Tulips Collection by Laura ART
For years I’ve looked at the window of my guest bath and said it needed something. Positioned over the shower/tub, I see it on my way to and from my sewing studio. Putting just anything there just wasn’t going to do. Nothing in bath wares was appropriate, desirable, or inspirational. It was a record hot Summer, this year. Thoughts of cools breezes and the colors of spring keep popping into my head. Inspiration struck and out came Tulips in the Window.
Tulips in the Window comes in two sizes. The 6x10 hoop size version finishes to 5 x 10 inches (125 x 250 mm). The 5x7 hoop size version finishes to 3½ x 7 inches (87 x.175 mm)
Like my other Outdoor Quilts, Tulips in the Window finishes to one background layer of fabric and one appliqué layer, with a two fabric layer border. No batting or backing fabric to trap moisture, mold, or mildew.
Tulips captures stitches a little Mother Nature whimsy with the accuracy and precision of the embroidery machine, to create fabric art for inside windows, where the addition of a little personal color and privacy are desired.
For those who do not wish to make window quilts Tulips Appliqué is a version of my Tulips in the Window that can be sewn with regular fabrics and constructed like a regular quilt. Unfortunately, some fabrics – such as the nylon flag fabrics – require unique stitching to ensure the best results. As a result, my Tulips in the Window (TIW) quilt machine embroidery designs are digitized for outdoor fabrics. Therefore, outdoor quilt stitching requirements do not do well on regular fabrics – at least I wouldn’t want mine made on regular fabric with those designs. For that reason, Tulips Appliqué is a re-digitized and tested version that can be used on regular fabrics and still contains my usual “made to last” method.
