Local discourse on skill implies a stance about technique that eschews
universal validity. Skill is opposed to claims of universality by
defining itself as eminently local, by being embodied and carried out
by particular people with specific competence and personal experience.
Speaking of skills, then, amounts to speaking of the constitution of
the person in certain kinds of relations, for instance of kinship,
apprenticeship and belonging.
