Managing your Newsletter E-Mail Address List
Anyone doing e-mail newsletters soon discovers that managing their (e-mail) address list is a major task. The timely management of opt-in subscriptions is critical to the success of a newsletter, yet can so easily go awry. There are new subscribers to confirm, deletion and confirmations for those who request to be “unsubscribed,†and the handling of bounced e-mails. If you do this manually, every time you send out your newsletter, there is considerable work involved to insert correct addresses in each e-mail. Perhaps you are using a blind copy technique in conjunction with a Microsoft Outlook distribution list, but too many e-mails are getting rejected by spam filters. And forget about trying to personalize each e-mail with the recipient’s name in the text body – this would simply take too long! Moreover, to avoid losing your list in the event your hard disk crashes or your PC is caught up in a natural disaster, regular back-up copies must be made and safely stored offsite. And every time you sent out a newsletter, you must be certain that the most recently “cleansed†list is being used. Whew! This gets complicated very quickly.
