Anthropology is the science of mankind. Our students learn to think
about human beings living in whole communities by doing their field
work in small, isolated communities, far from the influences of the
modern world. But having learned to think holistically, we then are
turning to think about the greater community of mankind, including
As we have come to know the whole of the planetary community, to know
that all human beings are members of one species, and that all human
groups can learn what any human group has developed, or consciously
invented, so anthropology can provide an integrating element in the
coming synthesis of science and philosophy, of the arts and humanities.
