Anthropology is the science of mankind. Our students learn to think about human beings living in whole communities by doing their field work in small, isolated communities, far from the influences of the modern world. But having learned to think holistically, we then are turning to think about the greater community of mankind, including womenkind. As we have come to know the whole of the planetary community, to know that all human beings are members of one species, and that all human groups can learn what any human group has developed, or consciously invented, so anthropology can provide an integrating element in the coming synthesis of science and philosophy, of the arts and humanities.
