The increasingly ideological character of the curriculum and the indoctrination of non-Jewish children, which occurred in their presence, affected them deeply. Already in December 1934 a report by the Reich Agency of German Jews reported that many Jewish children displayed psychological disturbances. Of course, in the early phase after the Nazi seizure of power there still were some teachers who paid attention to the situation of Jewish children and sought to protect them, and there were still fellow pupils who refused to break off their friendships.
