In sociology and cultural studies, the relationship between the body and consumption practices has increasingly been studied – for example, the ways in which commodities, including foods, and other goods, such as clothing and music, are used to obtain identity-value, encompassing style, status or group identification (Featherstone, 1991; Warde, 1996: 4–5; Falk, 1994).
