Fiddlers' Fugue for 5 violins parts & score pdf
Written by Harris Shilakowsky, former concertmaster of Charleston, New Orleans, Grand Rapids, and Omaha Symphony Orchestras, and guest leader of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Fiddlers' Fugue, completed for a composition competition, this piece was recorded in a studio on the South Shore of Boston, then digitally remastered along with the Messaien and Ysaye pieces which can be heard on the Recital tape available at Recordings.
1979-81. The theme is based on that of the Duettino for two violins by Shilakowsky, written more than twenty years before this piece was conceived. Dreamy, slightly dissonant. Not a strict fugue, bluesy modality clashes with modernity.
