FORMATTING GUIDELINES: 1. Papers must be five to seven pages in length and must be typed in a standard 12-point font (Calibri, Cambria, Times New Roman, Helvetica), double-spaced and include a 1-inch margin on all sides (and no more than 1 inch). 2. Do NOT insert an extra line of space between paragraphs – some word processors have this set as a default, so check yours to make sure it is not set up to do this. If you cannot fix this, your paper must be six to eight pages in length. 3. Number each page. 4. Be sure that your name and date appears at the top of the first page of the paper, and that your paper is stapled. A cover page is not needed, nor is a presentation folder necessary. 5. Be sure that you are writing an organized essay with clear, organized, and indented paragraphs. [A student last term sent one long block of text, so, yes, I am spelling all of this out this term]. 6. Your paper should have an introductory paragraph, which includes a clear thesis that you will support with your research. 7. Use MLA format for parenthetical citations and the bibliography/works cited page. 8. Your source sheet (bibliography/works cited page) must list the minimum of six sources used for your paper. The source sheet does not count in the page count for the paper. 9. This is an academic paper that should adhere to the convention of college composition with no errors in capitalization, spelling, punctuation, or grammar. Papers with excessive errors will not be graded. This is not a paper you want to write at the last minute. 10. Do not use text abbreviations or slang in your paper or expressions that are overgeneralizations, such “back in the day,” “some people say,” etc. Your final paper will require research and credible source citations. You will be required to have a minimum of six credible sources, which can be a combination of academic and media sources.

What has to be done:

Discuss the power of television to change public perceptions of issues in the news and in our culture. This paper should focus on how television produces and reproduces stereotypes through its inclusion and/or exclusion of minority groups in news or entertainment programming. (Focus on news or entertainment, but not both).
