Rahiem Shabazz Discusses Elementary Genocide and the Mis-Education of our Youth - My guest this morning is the producer of a documentary film series which explores the ways that the modern public school system has been set up to fail black you en masse.  The first film goes into the School to Prison Pipeline, how our youth are treated like criminals for minor infractions and then throughout their educational life treated as if their destiny is the incarcerations system.  The ratio of caring black teachers also is a key factor in creating a better outcome for these youth.  The second film explores this in depth in discussing the impact of school desegregation in perpetuating inequalities in the education system.  Our conversation covers a number of remedial pathways and how we can do better, just as are the children of immigrant families into the U.S who are excelling in these same schools.  The role of family, early literacy and non-school environments are all critical areas for our progressive focus.
