Misperception of Celebrity Deaths and Social Media Manipulation - Looking across the spectrum of news and social media, we have been inundated this year with stories of celebrity deaths. From the first day of the year we've learned of the passing of artists, movie and TV stars, prominent athletes and politicians. There is widespread perception that this number of deaths is highly unusual. My research debunks this myth as well as puts into context the fact that mass media since the 1960s has connected us to so many prominent people and celebrities that are aging or leading drug-dependent lifestyles, that we should expect to hear about such prominent people dying every day. Have we once again been hoodwinked and bamboozled by media who want to rule over us using fear, paranoia and excess obsession with the lives of people whom they promote and give disproportionate value to? Yes, we need to disconnect with the mundane lives of celebrities and create our own dynamic lives filled with purpose. (LIBMP3-3732)
