Reparations History Class, Knowing the Past to Enter the Future - Today we go to the book SHOULD AMERICA PAY?, a collection of essays on Reparations edited by Raymond Winbush, PhD. We focus on three essays by Dr. Winbush along with Rep. John Conyers and Deadria Farmer-Paellmann. In the first, Conyers lays out a great history lesson from the time of emancipation and through the eras of the Reconstruction and Jim Crow periods. His details of the abominations, the long legacy inherited from the British colonies and the rise of white terrorism throughout the South are all excellently presented. He elaborates on how other groups have received reparations from the U.S. and other governments. Next, Ms. Farmer-Paellmann discusses the role of corporations in the unholy commerce and the many ways that today's corporations as well as the financial markets are the inheritors of intergenerational wealth extracted from unpaid labor, trafficking in human commerce, as well as facilitating the whole process through financial services. We finish with Dr. Winbush whose particular focus deals with the immense land theft issues. From the government's immediate rebuke of the promise of "40 acres and a mule" to the numerous ways that whites conspired to steal land from black tenants, this is also an important piece of the whole story. This book is highly recommended and this archive will convince you of that fact. (LIBMP3-3713)
