Lyrics: Psalm 18, v.6-8,13,18,19,49

"An anthem taken out of the 18th psalm. This anthem was composed for the use of the people of Blandford, in the county of Dorset, on the 4th June, being the day that the town was destroyed by fire."

Knapp was a glover and tutor of psalmody in Poole. His "Set of new Psalm Tunes and Anthems" was popular, achieving 8 editions between 1738 and 1770. Knapp's constituency was country (predominantly organless) parishes. The reduction provided with the current edition is best reserved for rehearsal use only.

The destruction of Blandford (Forum) occurred in 1731, and it was rebuilt in red brick to the designs of local architects John and William Bastard.
