ADVANCED FUNK DRUMMING - digital book
"I can recommend this new project of the celebrated funk guru, Jim Payne, for any drummer looking to expand their funk vocabulary."
~ Peter Erskine
"Great project. Lot's of fun. Challenging grooves. The looped filming plus the notation puts you right in touch with the nuances of the beat… so much faster than the notation by itself."
~ Stanton Moore
“This well-thought-out book/video package is refreshingly exciting, innovative, and most of all, loads of fun! I highly recommend it!"
What can I say except 'Wow'? Jim Payne has produced one of the most inspiring pieces of educational material. It's very simple, if you want to improve your funk, get this book!"

This project came about when I discovered that I could make surprisingly good videos with my MacBook G3 and a decent external stereo mic. At first I was only going to record some original grooves for my own enjoyment, but then it developed into a more organized and complete pro- ject. I had yet to do a follow-up to my Funk Drumming book/CD, and now that it was fairly easy for me to record video along with audio, I felt the time was right.
I was in southern France for the summer and had access to a small stone house called a bergerie or cabanon, on the side of a mountain, where a shepherd might stay for a while to get out of the rain, far away from the main farmhouse...in other words, the perfect place for a drummer! No neighbors above, no neighbors below, no neighbors anywhere nearby. The first video clip and the photos throughout the book give an idea of the location.
There was no electricity, but I didn’t need it. If I was careful, the computer’s battery had plenty of power for each day’s work.
