Karate - the Way of the Empty Hand.
Karate teaching includes the use of set patterns/forms called kata. In the teaching of these kata, some traditionalists like to get to grips with what themoves actually do.
The process of taking the moves apart and analysing them is called bunkai. The use of those moves is called oyo.
In these Bunkai Gold videos, we include the free video attached to the Bunkai Strategies Newsletter as well as the longer, more detailed Bunkai Gold video available to subscribers.
This week's video is about the start of Heian Nidan kata. Also known as Pinan Shodan. We have a look at the detail of how to use it as a lock. Unfortunately, some of the footage is a little obscured by steam from the training... Still worthwhile information though.
