How To Teach A Great Unit on Fairytales
This unit, designed for Year 7-9 students, explores the genre of fairytales, how it is different to other types of narratives and what the purpose of fairytales are. Students will compare and contrast traditional fairytales, understanding the structural and lexical features of the genre and use this understanding to write their own traditional fairytales. This unit will also look at 'fractured fairytales' and how the messages of traditional fairytales can be subverted for humorous and satiric effect. Students will be scaffolded to write their own fractured fairytale. The unit includes resources for assessing students.
