Equivalent Fractions, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade
Topic: Recognize and Generate Simple Equivalent Equations
Visual fraction model such as fraction wall is provided to help children learn to recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions.
Based on fraction wall model, kids learn to identify:
- the numerator of an equivalent fraction when given a set of two fractions.
- the numerator and the denominator of respective equivalent fractions when a set of three fractions are given.
With given fractions and corresponding diagrams, children learn to recognize by matching equivalent fractions due to similar size.
Then, they move on to generate equivalent fraction based on (nxa)/(nxb) with diagrams to help them to understand this principle.
Kids are to apply the equivalent fractions concept on the last three sections without visual models and diagrams. They are required to generate numerators, denominators and
identify equivalent fractions.
