Description / Objective / Linked materials
The South West USA gives an example for the students of a region study. The region is discreet geographically being the drainage basin of the Colorado River. The study then introduces the students to geographical issues in this case the basic resource of water, sprawl and sustainability as posed by Greater Los Angeles and sun belt city development. I would also use this as an example for the students to practice map drawing and graph data skills. This study is a foundation for presentations in the year 8 and 9 packs. The LA problem city Differentiated Homework can be adapted for year 7. This unit can be extended or revisited in years 8 and 9 using the Colorado River and Los Angeles presentations. Assess learning and understanding using the Revise and Test presentations included.
4 lesson units – location, desert landscapes, the Colorado River and vegetation.
