Description / Objective / Linked materials
Map skills very much concentrate on reading OS maps. The unit provides a very clear visual way of learning how to visualise the landscape by using contours and symbols as well as the practical skill of finding and providing 4 and six figure grid references. Use this in conjunction with a local OS map extract and one showing a more varied landscape e.g. Western Cumbria. The Map Skills, Drawing a slope and Map Drawing Differentiated Homework sheets work very well as student activities. Assess learning and understanding using the Revise and Test presentations included.
3 lesson units – map skills, contours and grid references.
