Khalid the Future, (born Michael Reado) spent much of his young adult life in and out of a Texas Correctional Facility. With the odds against him it was anybody’s guess if he would ever return to prison. An unbridled will to leave his troubled past behind him and a passion for poetry as an expression of his embattled story helped Khalid turn his life around and led him to Carlos Wallace, Houston’s top manager and promoter. Wallace recognized Khalid’s intelligence, devotion and talent and gave him the opportunity to produce his Poetry or Die: “Queens of the Mic” show at the Houston Improv, one of the most celebrated stages in the country. With Khalid as Executive Producer and Wallace a seasoned guide, the show proved successful. The rest, as they say, is history.
