Rollabout Australia--I dreamt about going to Australia ever since I was a child. At age 29, it was time to make my dream come true. I knew it meant facing one of the most intense challenges of my life, one that had kept me apart from my dream for many years.
Nonetheless, with only my wheelchair and a round-trip ticket from Los Angeles (no tours scheduled, no rail tickets purchased and no plans per se) I set off to test my endurance with determination and a sense of humor. My first encounter with the “wrong way” drivers in Melbourne is only the beginning of a journey filled with surprises at every turn. My path takes me to Sydney, where I encounter the “turban king”. The travels also include Adelaide, Alice Springs and finally Uluru where I encounter a life-changing spiritual experience captured in a glowing monolith. Throughout my unstoppable adventure, a willingness to be open and flexible pay off in a growing realization of what true inner peace and freedom means. This book offers the reader a different view on travel that can only be told from the perspective of a person in a wheelchair.
