This design was inpired by a drawing my cousin, Eddie Standied, did while we were on a family reunion in Sunnyside, Arizona. The old windmill is no longer standing but we have our pictures, drawings and memories of it. This piece is a memorial to the windmill our mothers climbed and play on. It stood next to our great-grandmothers home. Our mothers and grandmother were born in the small settlement which is now a ghost town in the Huachuca Mountains of southern Arizona.

The model of this design now hangs in the offce of my student counselor at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. His walls are lined with student's art but mine is the first counted cross stitch piece to grace his office.
