Riven Hypocycloid Clock Woodworking Plans
Riven is a motor driven wooden clock aimed at tearing apart traditional horological reduction methods. It is the first clock to use a system of dual stage hypocycloid reducers on a single shared rotation axis. With a design aesthetic inspired by tourbillons, Riven’s name applies also to its forms. For a brief moment at both noon and midnight, every gear, support, hand, and frame will align. An instant later, the forms split apart as each follows its own unique eccentric motion.
Please verify you are able to source an applicable 6 RPM motor prior to purchasing the plans for Riven. Motor specifications are available in Riven’s sample plans.
Due to the variety of motors that can drive Riven, wiring instructions are NOT given in the plans. You are responsible for properly wiring the motor you choose to current codes and safety standards.
As with many tech products, motor models, suppliers, and availability are continuously changing. A motor meeting all requirements and recommendations may be difficult to find. Research various options and choose the one right for you.
By purchasing these plans, you are agreeing to the terms outlined in the plans and on the policies page of derekhugger.com.
