Doc Strange as Michael Moon - Vintage Hypnosis - Wellington 1993
This video show''s Doc Strange performing as Michael Moon "The Singing Hypnotist" - That''''s one of the titles I would give myself, even though I never sang a note. False advertising I''''m sure, but no one minded.
After a very busy summer season in Blackpool 1993, what you see here is a well honed, and calm perfomance in what proved to be the most popular, non entertainment venue for my show that year. They booked me 5 times in the space of 6 weeks. Packed to the rafters every night.
This was the only one I have on film, which I found on a VHS tape up in the loft. I''''ve recaptured it and the quality is good enough to enjoy. Plays great on laptops, ipads, iphone, android, vlc player, mx player etc.
Half way though the show the picture freezes for 1 minute while the sound contines. I think its a transcoding error, but does''''t affect the rest of playback. Everything else plays great.
What you will see is a very young Chris Doc Strange - Let me explain, I was always known as Doc, the idea of calling myself Michael Moon was because I didn''''t think the hypnosis would last, I used to do all sorts and was a Variety entertainer, I did the hypnosis as a challenge. By the time I realsed it had legs and I was sick of people calling me Mick or Mike, I went to being Doc full time in 1995. That''''s when I really let my hair down, figurativly and literally.
You will see the inductions I used, though not always heard as I did them off the mic (to stop people in the audience falling Asleep!) also the routines which I am surprised to find I still do, although I have honed them, what is seen here is really very good and I have impressed myself.
However there are skits here that make me cringe and I haven''''t done them since and I would not recommend you did them either. We live in a Litigious Society and it''''s best to make sure you are safe and covered at all times.I never had any incidents, but as I got more and more work, I decided to always play it safe and make sure my subjects never did themselves or anyone else any harm, no matter what.
Those Naughty Skits Are:
# Subjects Eating Onions and Lemons as if they are Apples and Oranges.
# Smoking Cigarettes on Stage (Myself included. Gross!)
# a Guy doing Kung Fu moves without first telling him not to hurt himself or anyone else (Luckily he didn''''t hurt himself, but could have.)
# Subjects Drinking on stage
# and the one that really makes me cringe: The Used Toilet Paper Skit (Not nice, but funny!)
Enjoy this show, especially if you are learning about stage hypnosis, there is a lot of stuff in here which I figured out myself. I''''d read lots of books on Hypnosis, but nothing for the stage and it wasn''''t until 1994 did I get the Book by Ormond McGill and go "Oh, I do that!", so what you see here was my own doing. The basic routines, skits came from a Spanish Stage Hypnotist called Jay Luis, who was a very gracious performer and helped me by sharing his material, which I later found was very much open source and original ideas seen are of course mine.
Thank you to the Wonderful Volunteers who took part in this show and all my shows, without you, I am nothing but an idiot in a white coat with a big mouth. If you were in my show, email me, I will send you a free copy.
